On February 20th in 34 different cities of the world will be held the World Information Architecture Day (WIAD). In Italy it will take place in three cities: one of these will be – again – Palermo.

PMO coworking, FabLab Palermo, Open Data Sicilia and PUSH, that organized the past edition, are managing the organization of this event in Sicily.

Because of the ubiquitous nature of information, this year the theme is “Information Everywhere, Architects Everywhere”.

In the “sicilian” edition of WIAD, the speakers will have their speech in the morning (10.30 am – 1 p.m.), while in the afternoon, at 3 p.m., there will be a workshop.

The workshop is organized by Andrea Borruso, expert in open data and member of Open Data Sicilia.

Last Saturday an eight-hour marathon was held at Sala delle Lapidi of Palazzo delle Aquile in Palermo, with nine speakers talking about this year’s WIAD topic: “Architecting Happiness”.

Great interest was shown by the general public, professionals in the field, and people intrigued by the topics discussed. The task of “Information Architecture” is to connect contents and users, organizing information so make it accessible and easy to understand, in order to improve the final users’ experience. Anthropology, Marketing, UX Design are just a few of the interconnected disciplines involved.

Our approach to WIAD has been of having Palermo familiarize with topics and experiences of international import: to mention but a few, Eugenio Menichella spoke of the “emotional return” of sport companies’ and institutions’ investments, and Stefano Dominici carefully analyzed the relations between stakeholders and clients.

The event was a success also online: over 200 access of the live streaming and an all day long bustling live tweeting at the hashtag #wiadpalermo.

Lunch-break was an occasion to express how one can architect happiness through food: during the street food tour, organized in collaboration with StrEat Palermo Tour, a large group of participants was accompanied through the streets and alleys of the old town, between a sweet-wine and cheese aperitivo in the old Arab market of the Vucciria and a full street-food meal with local gastronomic delicacies.

We are all very satisfied for having brought WIAD in Palermo for the first time, and this encourages us to bring in the city new and stimulating adventures.

Il 21 febbraio si terrà in 38 città in tutto il mondo la giornata internazionale dell’Architettura dell’Informazione (WIAD), promossa dall’Information Achitecture Institute con lo scopo di promuovere questa disciplina attraverso il racconto delle esperienze e dei progetti sviluppati dai professionisti del settore e non solo.

Il termine Architettura dell’Informazione, dall’inglese Information Architecture, indica la struttura organizzativa logica e semantica delle informazioni, dei contenuti e dei processi di un sistema o di un ambiente, in diversi contesti spazio-temporali. L’Architettura dell’Informazione mette in relazione contenuti e utenti, organizzando le informazioni in modo da renderle accessibili e facili da comprendere, al fine di migliorare l’esperienza dei fruitori finali.

Il tema  del WIAD di quest’anno, attorno a cui ruoteranno gli interventi degli speaker, è Architecting Happiness: il legame tra informazione ed emozione e, in particolare, come un’Architettura dell’Informazione chiara e coerente al contesto di riferimento possa infondere serenità e senso di appagamento.

PUSH ha deciso di portare questo format internazionale nel capoluogo siciliano (qui il sito web) e ne ha curato l’organizzazione, così da arricchire di un ulteriore valore il territorio in cui lavora.
L’altra città italiana in cui si svolgerà il WIAD è Bologna, che conta su una community di professionisti attiva già da diversi anni.

PUSH will participate to the Giornata Mondiale dell’Architettura dell’Informazione to be held (also) in Siracusa on 15 February 2014.

An annual event taking place simultaneously in 24 different cities in the world to promote a discipline that, by structuring experiences, words, and messages and by projecting relations between services providers and users, deals with the organization of information so that they can be easily accessed and readily conveyable.

Several experts from academia and from the world of work will be participating to a global discussion on the premises and opportunities of Information Architecture, for a better understanding the role of our activity within companies and institutions.

The event will take place at Impact Hub Siracusa.
